Louis Vuitton Ladies Tambour Diver Watch 9/1/2009 8:57:52 AM

Louis Vuitton applies it feminine touch to the otherwise manly Tambour Diver watch. The new Tambour Diver Lady is a charming line of watches that come in 35mm steel or pink gold cases (the latter having some diamond decoration). You can get the Louis Vuitton Tambour Diver Lady watch with a Swiss quartz or automatic mechanical movement. The dial is available with the classic Louis Vuitton floral pattern or pink mother or pearl.

Look for the Tambour Diver Lady on a textured rubber strap in pink or white. The watch uses the same shape and has the internal rotating diver's bezel just like the handsome, larger men's version. The timepiece is a fully functional diver being water resistant to 300 meters, and having a thick sapphire crystal. With its good looks, durability, and desirable name brand, this Louis Vuitton Tambour Diver Lady watch line could be the most notable women's diving watch to come along in a long while. You won't find the watches that easily as you'll have to look at special Louis Vuitton boutiques only. Price will likely be around 3,000 euros. Via  Ariel Adams for ablogtoread.com

Audemars Piguet Adopts A Highway In A Limited Edition Watch 6/22/2009 3:19:57 PM

I've never before seen a luxury timepiece made in honor of a road. Scratch that, there was a Route 66 edition Hamilton watch, but that pales in comparison to the luxury of Audemars Piguet. If there was a luxury-themed road to honor, it would be the Montauk Highway that runs from New York City to the Hamptons in New York. The 100 mile stretch of highway is the popular getaway path for people wanting to enter the decadent lifestyle of the Hamptons. In addition to parties and beachfront properties, the luxury lifestyle of the Hamptons makes it an ideal place for watch lovers. This limited edition of 300 pieces watch is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Montauk Highway watch.

The steel-cased watch has some unique colorings that include the off-white dial with lots of aquamarine trim against some chocolate brown. The avant garde colors look nice against the handsome classic watch. Inside is an in-house made Audemars Piguet automatic chronograph movement that is in most of the Royal Oak Offshore chronograph watches. The watch comes in a special box for the limited edition also meant to celebrate the famous highway. In opposition to the title of the article, no money (as far as I know) is going to the highway itself, but you get the symbolic connection. The Montauk Highway watch will be available in New York City, Long Island, and Bal Harbour Florida for $20,500.

Pharrell Williams Custom Bape x Casio G-Shock DW-6900 6/16/2009 1:50:59 PM

In the world of custom G-Shocks, Pharrell and the crew has pretty much outdone and outshone anybody with his outlandish customs. Add another one to the collection with this new gold joint. Based on a Bape collaboration DW-6900, the watch is encrusted in gold while the G-Shock logo on the top of the face is left in rainbow colors. Of course an exclusive 1 of 1 piece.

Gerald Genta Gefica Kilimanjaro Watch 6/16/2009 1:00:33 PM

Does this watch remind you of the snow capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa? Me neither, but that is its intended purpose. Forgive the lack of obvious association with its namesake and appreciate what is so nice about this Gerald Genta Gefica Kilimanjaro watch. The Gefica watch line has been around for a while and here is made in bronze - a metal that isn't often used for watches (case is 46.5mm wide at its largest point). There is also titanium in the construction (all the little beads are titanium). The bronze metal will slowly adopt a different color over time.

Complications include a retrograde minutes scale and date, with a jumping hour window and traditional seconds hand (in red). I love the art deco numbers all over the face that remind of me several conga line-esque dancing groups. The whole dial has a lively "movement" to it that is warm to look at. Gerald Genta is also a master of the bulbous hands that look like geometric circle stencils. Perhaps that was originally part of the influence behind their design. The Kilimanjaro edition Gefica watch will be part of a limited edition of just 100 and looks stunning in which - as part of the new white watch trend.

Issey Miyake "Hu" Watch Designed By Ross Lovegrove 6/3/2009 1:46:00 PM

Soft avant garde lines, and a unique face makes this almost novelty watch standout a bit more than you might expect. The watch is called the "Hu" and is designed by popular award-winning designer Ross Lovegrove (what a last name). It will be sold under the Issey Miyake watch brand name, who himself is a clothes designer who has a growing watch line. Plus, the watch will be built by Seiko, so it is up to you to decide exactly who this watch "comes from." Seiko and Issey Miyake (both Japanese) have actually been working together since 2001.The Hu watch is made of titanium with a rubber strap and comes in gray, white, and black.

Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL Flyback Chronograph Watch 6/1/2009 9:14:09 PM

Now up to 45mm wide (up from 43mm) the Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL beats the older XL in size and design for the look of the sportier version of the standard Riviera watch that wasn't exactly stuffy to begin with. Complications include a 30 minute flyback chronograph powered by the automatic mechanical Ref. 8834 movement that is likely a modified Valjoux 7750. The dial of the watch is something you've probably noticed. Call it skeletonized, call it a "view to the movement," the dial is actually a black tinted sapphire crystal. The text and Roman numerals are applied directly on the tinted dial in luminant.

The case is PVD coated steel with a cool looking sandblasted look. Everything about it is big from the four large hex screws, chronograph pushers, and massive crown. It is hard to tell in the images but the left side of the case is decorated with vertical cutaway slits (Baume & Mercier says they are meant to remind you of a car grill). The case is also 200 meters water resistant and features a exhibition caseback. Despite what is likely broad appeal, the Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL Flyback Chronograph watch will be limited to just 1000 pieces. A nice action version of the already sporty Riviera Magnum watch line.

Graham Lucy In The Sky Watch For Women 5/21/2009 12:13:04 AM

It was only a matter of time before the popular Graham Swordfish watch got overhauled into a woman's watch. It doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense given the fact that the Swordfish is a large aggressive watch attempting to evoke an image of air combat, but with popularity comes marketability. The image of the watch has been reformed into something sparkly that makes you think of the well-known Beatles' song. The clever connection links the British band to the British watch brand, and suggests that "Lucy in the Sky" is still a watch with an aviation theme. Though I don't think Graham wants its potential customers considering floating over strawberry fields - forever.

Inside the watch is an automatic mechanical chronograph movement. The bug-eyed chronograph subdial magnifiers remain, but are basically useless as the dials now just have hands with some random placed diamonds. You'd have to be really sharp to use the chronograph with any precision. The watch does look pretty with over 150 diamonds organically placed all over the dial and case. Oddly enough, the watch is still 46mm wide, which would look silly on all but the largest wristed of women. There are plenty of men even who won't wear a 46mm wide watch. The main draw of the timepiece is the aggressive large size with soft decoration making for bold statement of a watch. The Lucy in the Sky collection is available in stainless steel or red gold, with a white or black face. Prices are likely to be between about $10,000 and $20,000.

Women Get All The Good Stuff 5/18/2009 4:11:58 PM

Corum Golden Bridge Lady Diamond Watch

Some of you will no doubt recognize Corum's new Golden Bridge Lady Diamond Watch as a derivative of an existing style they have, to others this unique watch will be all new. Years ago Corum was able to develop a mechanical movement that was shaped like a bar (more or less linear as opposed to square or circular). They placed it in a horizontal fashion in watches. It was incredible to look at as they cased in an traditionally sized squarish case with the movement placed in the middle being showcased through the sapphire crystals. This concept has been adopted here and is now placed horizontally instead of vertically with the new Corum Gold Bridge Lady Diamond watch. The new position of the movement is more flattering to the wrist in the rectangular 41mm x 34mm sized case that comes in either red gold or white gold.

Aside from the 180 diamonds on the case and face, and the unique placement of the dial, the real show here is in the mechanical C0113 movement and in watching its ongoing operations. Despite its tiny size, it still has 40 hours of power reserve. While you can't truly appreciate the movement in still images, just try to imagine it with all the gears turning as the movement operates. The movement is suspended in the case between two sapphire crystals meaning you can see straight through to the other side of the case - quite cool. In addition to white or red gold, the watch comes with a black or white (pictured) alligator strap. Only 175 of these limited edition watches will ever be made, with just a few pieces produced each year. It is an incredible piece of micro mechanics for the woman who can appreciate the beauty of mechanical watches.

Dope Watch 5/13/2009 11:37:55 PM

Victorinox celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Swiss Army Knife with this 1884 limited-edition travel alarm clock.

The device is inspired by the steel spring mechanism system of Swiss Army Knives.

Some of the features include the special anniversary design which is placed on the front panel as well as the caseback that is also engraved with the logo and the limited edition number.
The Snyper One 5/11/2009 10:05:08 PM

An instant recognition of quality and heritage is often associated with Swiss watch-making as Snyper introduces an all new model for next month. Titled “The Snyper One”, the watch is perfect for fans of large faced watches as the steel case measures in at 44mm in a sleek, coated matte black PVD. Other noteworthy characteristics are best described below: The bezel is fixed; two steel fixation bars are assembled at 8 and 10 o’clock allowing additional modules to be added to the case. The sapphire glass back is engraved with a target. The time-adjustment crown has the appearance of a sight instrument, while the chronograph function controls remind of two triggers. The watch sports a 7755 S caliber, an evolution of one of the most recognized Swiss watch movements to ever be produced. The movement also features blue screw details and of course the red Snyper signature. The rubber bracelet underlines the overall sporty and military inspired look of the watch.

The watch will release next month with a suggested retail price of $6,100 USD and limited to only 100 pieces globally. The watch unlike major watch-makers these days is constructed entirely in Switzerland. For more information, check SnyperWatches.ch.
Heartbreak Watch 5/5/2009 4:01:56 PM

A good idea from luxury watch maker Leon Hatot is this heart-shaped dial watch for the ladies. The face has been designed to allow for a heat-shaped sapphire crystal to sit over the identically shaped face. The look is still subtle enough to not look too cheesy - and the rest of the face has been dedicated to branding space. Leon Hatot is another high-end brand under the Swatch Group umbrella. This model, the Chrono Heartbreaker has nothing broken about it. In the direct center of the watch is the petite face showing the time. The three subsidiary dials for the chronograph are placed in an overlapping fashion that help form the heart shape. The dial includes a pretty array of colors and fine machine engraving. Blued hands complete that "you know this is from a traditionally themed luxury watch brand look."

The case is large for a woman's watch at 41mm wide with a fine amount of polishing and is likely done in steel. Inside the watch is an automatic ETA movement (of course as ETA is also Swatch Group owned) and the timepiece is available with dial and strap color options including silver face with a white strap, black, and chocolate. The matching straps are alligator with an inner rubber lining that should prove interesting to wear - will likely make for a very secure fit, but still look chic.

Hand-Engraved!!! 5/4/2009 3:54:10 PM

Full Hand-Engraved Magrette Maui's Limited Edition Watch From New Zealand

This incredible watch was thought impossible given the level of detail all over the timepiece's case - but passion made it possible. Graduating from having a limited edition watch with just an engraved bezel - New Zealand's own and only watch company, Magrette, now presents "Maui's Fish." The watch is based on the Magrette Regattare model, but adds an incredible amount of decoration styled after the art and stories of New Zealand's native people, the Maoris.

What I like so much about the engravings is the level of character as opposed to just being pretty. Expressive faces peek between waves and winds, with an overall visual effect of the watch being quite satisfying and appearing grand in scale. The images actually tell a story related to a Maori mythological tale relating to the creation of New Zealand's northern island, you can learn more about it via the link above. A good story like that to share while showing off your watch is something you don't get with most other timepieces.

Inside the watch is a Swiss automatic mechanical ETA 2824-2 movement, with a legible and attractive dial similar to Anonimo watch faces. The steel case is 44mm wide, and the watch comes in a limited edition presentation box crafted from New Zealand Kauri timber. Price is a very reasonable $3985, but the watch comes in a limited edition of just 10. A really great watch with a great story. See the gallery below for more images of the Magrette Maui's Fish.

Good Look 4/30/2009 10:09:59 PM

Here is a cool watch for you Greek mythology fans out there from Dubey & Shaldenbrand. Probably the best touch in this Olympe watch collection is the Zeus lightning bolt minute hand, but other aspects of this watch fit the theme nicely as well. Dubey & Shaldenbrand timepieces are shaped like (more) avant garde Franck Muller watches, using a similar tonneau shaped case, which in this instance is 33mm wide and 44mm tall. The case is steel, and two versions are available with and without diamonds set in the bezel.

The high grade ETA 2892 automatic movement has been modified with a day/night display that operates the rotating disc in the middle of the dial. A date window is covertly placed at the 6 o'clock position. The dial layout is exceptionally well done as a easy to see round dial is placed within the oblong shaped face. Good use of the style with good functionality. Around the round dial are well designed numerals with an art deco character. Of course there are the zodiac characters displayed, but they are just placed for show (no zodiac calendar indicator). The watch is meant to represent the power and might of the Greek gods, and the corresponding mythology. A nice genre piece with the images on the enamel dial. The Dubey & Shaldenbrand Olympe watch collection will be offered as a limited edition of just 200 pieces. Price will be at least $10,000 - $15,000.

Apple Bang 4/2/2009 12:00:00 AM

hublot-big-bang-black-apple-watch

Hublot Big Bang Apple Watches

While it hasn’t been explicitly marketed as such, this “Apple Bang” series of watches from Hublot new for 2009 is likely a line for the ladies. As most Big Bang watches are 44mm wide and up, this watch is just 41mm wide. The name “Big Bang Apple” of course comes from New York’s nickname ‘The Big Apple.” Now with more “bang.” The two new watches feature candy colored green stained alligator straps with rubber inserts. The green on the case of the watch is also rubber or resin, while the bezel is lined with a gem called Tsavorite (48 of them in a baguette cut). The gem is actually a bright green colored garnet that is found in Tanzania.

The Hublot Big Bang Apple can be had in gold or in black (comprised of black ceramic, and black gold - Called the Big Bang Black Apple). Both watches feature titanium screws and signature black Hublot rotor on the HUB4300 automatic movement visible through the caeeback window. The dial on both watches is pretty standard Big Bang, a design that is both legible and attractive. In femme form, the watch still looks good. Sure it has enough aggressive charm, but the look is perfect for the growing number of women who prefer to wear larger, masculine looking watches with a female twist (bright green!). The dial is white with gold applied markers and hands, or black colored with black nickel hands.

Hublot touted this Big Bang Apple as something special before it was released. Some fans were a bit dissapointed that it was just another color scheme change for the Big Bang line. That may be true, but looking at it in a vacuum, it is still a pretty nice and still fresh looking design from a well regarded watch maker.
